Chesapeake & Allegheny Live Steamers | Gwynn Oak MD

Chesapeake & Allegheny Live Steamers (CALS) is a non-profit live steam club located in Baltimore, Maryland, dedicated to the preservation and operation of steam engines, particularly in the railroad domain. Through their efforts, CALS educates the public on the historical significance of steam technology in the nation’s development. The club operates miniature trains, offering enjoyable rides on their extensive tracks, which span between 3,200 to 3,400 feet, featuring both ground-level and elevated tracks across a scenic 11.5 acres in Leakin Park.

CALS promotes lifelong learning and mentorship in STEAM principles—science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics—by immersing participants in hands-on experiences. Public riding days occur on the second Sunday of each month from April to November, with free rides available and picnic tables for families wishing to spend a day at the park. In addition to their operational activities, the club provides resources on steam locomotive operation, safety guidelines, and insights into the model boiler code developed in partnership with the state.
