The Calyx Institute

The Calyx Institute is a nonprofit organization working to defend digital privacy, advance connectivity, and help ensure everyone can access the resources and tools needed to stay securely connected. Its work combines technology, community support, research, and education to promote a future in which digital rights are respected.

Through its membership program, supporters can choose a mobile hotspot offering unlimited Wi-Fi across the United States or a Pixel phone with CalyxOS pre-installed. The institute also develops and helps make privacy tools available, including a free VPN, Tor-related activities, and apps and services associated with CalyxOS.

Calyx supports organizations and individuals through a multi-year grants program focused on strengthening connectivity, privacy, and digital security, including software development and educational research. Its research and education initiatives bring together community partners to build knowledge and resources. Members and donors help sustain this work, while the institute shares updates on its tools, grants, community projects, and digital rights efforts.
