About Carollyne Yardley
Carollyne Yardley is an innovative interdisciplinary artist-researcher based in Victoria, BC, rooted in the ancestral territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən-speaking peoples. With an MFA from Emily Carr University and a dual BA in Art History and Psychology, she explores the intricate relationships between humans and urban wildlife through a unique research-creation practice.
Yardley repurposes organic and human-made materials to investigate themes of co-evolution, toxicity, and regeneration, employing techniques such as assemblage, photography, and installation. Her thought-provoking art challenges societal perceptions of animal-human interactions and emphasizes biodiversity's interconnectedness.
Represented by Fazakas Gallery and Madrona Gallery, Yardley's work has been exhibited across Canada and has received numerous accolades, including the Governor General’s Academic Gold Medal. Her contributions to the field extend beyond visual art; she has published articles in leading journals and participated in symposiums that focus on multispecies communication. Carollyne’s work not only captivates but also encourages a deeper understanding of our shared environment.
