About Canadian Authors
The Canadian Authors Association (CAA) is a membership-based organization supporting writers at every stage of their careers, from aspiring authors to established professionals. Founded in 1921, it works to foster a flourishing community of writers across Canada and promote literary and artistic merit. The association connects members nationwide through an online community where they can network, share publication news, post events, and join writing sessions.
It also helps writers build their craft and careers through webinars, podcasts, workshops, its Writers in Residence program, and CanWrite!, a national conference. Members can promote their work through an online directory, book catalogue, advertising opportunities, book fairs, readings, and other events. CAA shares information about awards, contests, calls for submissions, conferences, and retreats, and recognizes Canadian literary talent through awards, including the Karen Gansel Short Fiction Award.
Its advocacy work addresses authors’ rights, copyright, fair treatment, and emerging issues such as artificial intelligence. The association also supports youth and equity initiatives and offers membership benefits at different levels, with opportunities to learn, connect, and contribute to Canada’s literary future
