About Canales
Canales is a brand that is making a significant impact in promoting literacy and inclusivity for the deaf community in Argentina. As a civil association, Canales has organized the first Literary Festival in Argentine Sign Language (LSA) with the participation of over 20 schools both in-person and online. This festival highlights the recognition of LSA as a natural and indigenous language, a linguistic and cultural heritage for the deaf community across the country.
Canales also offers valuable resources for teachers and deaf students, including an annual downloadable calendar with important dates for the Argentine deaf community, as well as monthly calendars with specially designed activities for deaf students. They have recently expanded their video library, providing access to Argentine Sign Language literature. Additionally, Canales promotes deaf children's rights, ensuring their right to play, participate in family conversations, enjoy stories in their visual language, and be treated as healthy children.
Canales' commitment to inclusivity is further demonstrated by their appointment of Julia Valmarrosa, a deaf woman, as their new director. Through their various initiatives and projects, Canales strives to empower and enrich the intercultural experiences of the deaf community in Argentina
