Canberra Airport has a rich history dating back to the 1920s and has since grown to become a major transportation hub in the ACT region. Initially serving as an emergency landing spot, the airport quickly expanded to accommodate both military and civilian aviation needs. Over the years, the airport underwent significant upgrades and expansions to meet the growing demand.

In 1998, Canberra Airport was privatized and purchased by Terry Snow and his family. This marked the beginning of a transformational period known as the Airvolution, which saw the construction of a new terminal building, improved road systems, expanded car parking facilities, and upgraded aircraft parking aprons. The new terminal, opened in 2013, boasts an increased number of check-in counters, a larger baggage handling system, aerobridges, ample lounge areas, and a range of retail and dining options.

In 2016, Canberra Airport entered the international age with the arrival of Singapore Airlines, followed by Qatar Airways in 2018. While international travel temporarily ceased due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the airport is set to welcome Fiji Airways in July 2023 for a twice-weekly service to Nadi. With a bright future ahead, Canberra Airport continues to play a vital role as a national transportation hub, housing commercial business parks and multiple retail destinations.
