The Canadian Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium (CanROC) is a national research collaboration working to improve survival after sudden cardiac arrest in Canada. It brings together Canadian universities, researchers, emergency medical services and fire service partners, building on more than two decades of Canadian contributions to out-of-hospital resuscitation research. CanROC’s central resource is the Canadian sudden cardiac arrest registry, which is expanding to include communities across most provinces.
The registry supports quality improvement, observational research, clinical trial development and assessment of educational, government and community advocacy initiatives. Through its projects, CanROC conducts registry analyses and prospective studies and trials, and shares findings through scientific publications and abstracts. The consortium also provides information for the public, emergency responders, researchers and students, alongside mentorship and training opportunities.
Its work is supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada. By connecting research teams and emergency service partners, CanROC aims to strengthen evidence, collaboration and practice in resuscitation, with the broader goal of increasing cardiac arrest survival nationwide
