About Canterbury
The Canterbury Basketball Association (CBA) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting and developing basketball in Canterbury since its establishment in 1972. With approximately 5,000 players from clubs, schools, and social teams in Christchurch, the CBA serves as the central hub for the sport's growth in the region. The association oversees a wide range of competitions, including Premier and youth levels, ensuring there are opportunities for all athletes from primary through to under-23 categories.
CBA also offers inclusive midweek and social competitions, catering to both club-affiliated and independent teams. Their commitment to youth development is evident through their comprehensive junior programs aimed at various age groups, and they actively participate in Basketball New Zealand events. Additionally, CBA facilitates coaching and referee development through various resources and initiatives, including the BNZ Kiwihoops program and the Skills Accelerator. With a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, CBA continues to nurture basketball talent and strengthen community involvement in the sport.
