About Central AZ Project
Central Arizona Project (CAP) is a visionary brand that provides a vital water supply to over 5 million people in Maricopa, Pima, and Pinal counties. With a system of aqueducts, tunnels, pumping plants, and pipelines spanning 336 miles, CAP transports water from Lake Havasu, Arizona to its terminal station in the San Xavier Indian Reservation southwest of Tucson. CAP was born out of Arizona's recognition of the importance of reliable and renewable water supply.
The construction of this engineering marvel started in 1973 and took 20 years to complete at a cost of over $4 billion. Today, CAP delivers the largest renewable water supply in Arizona, serving 80% of the state's population. Governed by a popularly elected Board of 15 members, CAP continues to ensure reliable water operations and sustainable management of water resources through their dedicated team of professionals.
