Cap à l’Est, presented through its Capalest festival, is a cultural initiative based in Banská Štiavnica, Slovakia. Since its founding in 2003, the festival has brought together European cultures through poetry, theatre and music, creating opportunities for artists and audiences to meet and engage. Its 20th edition took place from 18 to 20 August 2022, continuing a programme shaped by a longstanding enthusiasm for language, performance and artistic exchange.
Capalest offers a varied programme for different audiences, including poetry readings, staged literary performances, discussions about translation, theatre and puppet shows for children, live music and dance, and photography exhibitions. The 2022 events featured readings by poets Aksinia Mihailova and Ivan Štrpka, a performance inspired by Charles Baudelaire, and a theatrical reading of Blaise Cendrars’ Trans-Siberian narrative. A flamenco production brought together guitar, violin and dance, while a children’s puppet performance welcomed younger visitors. Events were hosted at venues across the historic city, including the Old Castle. Capalest also provides festival information and ticket enquiries through its website and contact channels.
