Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design is a dynamic and impactful brand that plays a crucial role in the educational, promotional, and economic growth of the craft sector on Cape Breton Island. With over 300 members, including individuals and organizations, the Centre is dedicated to promoting excellence in the field of craft and design through various initiatives. The Centre offers a wide range of educational opportunities for beginners, recreational practitioners, and professional artists alike, covering both contemporary and traditional craft. Their permanent Gallery and Gallery Shop feature the work of over 110 talented Cape Breton artisans. With a strong focus on community engagement, the Centre also provides programming for children and youth, ensuring the legacy of craft is passed down to future generations.
Additionally, they actively involve their members by electing a Board of Directors responsible for guiding the organization and its operations. The Centre is supported by various funding partners, including TD Bank Group, Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage, who all share a common goal of nurturing and promoting the craft sector. With their strategic plan in place from 2018 to 2021, Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design is committed to developing and growing the craft sector on the island, fostering innovation, and contributing to the local economy.
