Capoeira Resistência

Grupo de Capoeira Resistência is a New Zealand Capoeira group offering classes that bring together Afro-Brazilian martial arts, movement, music, and culture. Established in 2022, the group serves communities in Marlborough, Wellington, Hawkes Bay, Hamilton, and beyond, with training places and schedules varying by location. Classes are designed primarily for adults and teenagers, and beginners are welcome without prior experience or a fitness background. Younger children may participate when accompanied by a parent or caregiver who joins the class.

Training includes warm-ups, fundamental movements, sequences, defensive and attacking techniques, basic acrobatics, partner drills, music, and practice in the roda, the circle where Capoeira is played. Participants can learn instruments such as the berimbau, pandeiro, agogo, and reco-reco; instruments are provided during classes. A free trial class offers a way to get started, and the listed fee is $20 per week. The group also provides registration information, a Capoeira songbook with translated lyrics and listening links, a blog, and a shop offering group shirts, white Capoeira trousers, and other related items.
