Capricon is a four-day science fiction and fantasy convention in the Chicago area, with a particular focus on literature. Organized by Phandemonium, Inc., a parent 501(c)(3) organization, the event brings fans together to celebrate imaginative storytelling, creativity, and community. Capricon 47 takes place January 28–31, 2027, at the Marriott Chicago O’Hare.
Its theme, “No Strings Attached,” invites attendees to explore the whimsy of puppets, muppets, and other playful forms of storytelling, while seeking joy and discovering new stories. The convention welcomes guests of honor from across the creative community, including author Mary Robinette Kowal. Capricon’s offerings include literary and other convention programming, an art show, dealers, music, parties, fan tables, and opportunities to volunteer.
Attendees can also explore convention merchandise and items from past Capricons, as well as a bookshop. The organization provides information on registration, accessibility, conduct policies, and con-related health guidance, and shares news through its website, social media, and newsletter
