Capricorn Citizen Advocacy Rockhampton is a community organisation supporting people with disability, particularly those who may be isolated, segregated from the wider community, or dependent on others for everyday assistance. Its work is grounded in the belief that everyone deserves justice, acceptance, love, security, and control over their own life. The organisation connects a person, known as a Protégé, with a volunteer Advocate in a unique one-to-one relationship.
Advocates take time to build trust, share experiences and skills, and understand situations from the person’s perspective. They offer practical support and representation, help ensure a person’s interests are heard, and promote respect, dignity, recognised rights, and informed decision-making. A central aim is to support each person’s right to make their own choices.
Capricorn Citizen Advocacy invites community members to volunteer and make a difference, and provides information and resources about advocacy, disability issues, and its mission. The organisation is funded by the Queensland Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety and is based in West Rockhampton
