About Captain Fanplastic
Captain Fanplastic is a primary school programme that is dedicated to making a positive impact on our oceans by reducing pollution. As an advocate for the UN's SDG Goal 14, Captain Fanplastic raises awareness about the impact of plastic and its value. Through the use of graphic storytelling, creativity, and gamification, the programme educates children about plastic and its effects.
Our story begins in South Africa, where communities struggle with limited service delivery and are surrounded by mountains of trash. This firsthand experience showcases how waste degrades and pollutes our precious resources, ultimately ending up in the sea and harming marine life. Seeing the need for change, Captain Fanplastic was created in 2018.
This engaging programme incorporates theory, creativity, and gamification to inspire learners and create a sense of environmental custodianship. Currently active in South Africa and the Netherlands, Captain Fanplastic has plans to expand to other countries in 2020. Join us in our mission to foster a new generation of environmental stewards.
