Carbon Compost

Carbon Compost is a Pittsburgh-based food recycling service and social impact organization focused on reducing organic waste while benefiting local communities and the environment. Operating as a triple bottom line business, it aims to balance environmental responsibility, community well-being, and financial sustainability. The company also emphasizes equitable hiring and fair wages.

Carbon Compost offers residential curbside pickup, commercial food scrap recycling, and composting services for events. Residential customers receive a bin and lid, fill it with accepted organic waste, and leave it out for collection on their scheduled service day. In spring, customers may request a bag of finished compost. Service availability depends on location, and people outside the current coverage area can sign up for expansion updates.

The company also provides soil products through its shop, along with merchandise and gift cards. By diverting food scraps from landfills, Carbon Compost supports more sustainable waste management, helps reduce methane emissions, and creates nutrient-rich compost that can improve soil health.
