Cardiff Model Engineering Society operates the Heath Park Miniature Railways and Tramway in Cardiff, offering visitors an enjoyable way to experience miniature steam, diesel and electric trains, as well as tram rides. Set in Heath Park near the University Hospital of Wales, the railway provides an enclosed setting for an affordable family outing, with monthly public opening days for visitors of all ages. The site also offers refreshments from its barbecue, Pullman Buffet and ice cream cabin, alongside cold drinks, confectionery, toys and souvenirs from the station gift shop.

The society welcomes schools, children’s charities and youth groups for private running days, and says these visits are free for groups such as Scouts, Cubs and Beavers. Beyond its railway activities, it maintains a lecture room with video and audio facilities and a library focused on heritage, science and engineering. The society hosts free talks throughout the year on heritage, the environment, engineering and related subjects, supports college and university research, and brings volunteers’ experience to the encouragement of future engineers and scientists.
