CARE-Dallas is a Dallas-based nonprofit that has worked to prevent substance use and promote community awareness since 1984. Its approach recognizes that substance use can be connected to mental health, trauma, stress, and other challenges, and combines education with practical resources and support for individuals, families, schools, and community organizations.
The organization offers age-appropriate assemblies for Kโ12 students, the free four-week SoberU course for teens and young adults, and a student ambassador program focused on sobriety, safety, and compassion. Parents can use What Is...?, a plain-language guide to 18 substances, while schools and other groups can access education on topics including fentanyl and substance use trends. CARE-Dallas also provides professional development and wellness training for school staff and other teams, covering mental health, trauma-informed care, burnout, and crisis response.
Additional services include free Narcan kits and group training, free home drug screening kits, crisis and treatment referrals, and scholarship opportunities. Through its programs and outreach, CARE-Dallas aims to help people make informed decisions and access support without judgment.
