About CARISMA
CARISMA, the Canadian Array for Realtime Investigations of Magnetic Activity, is a magnetometer network and the magnetic-measurement component of the Geospace Observatory Canada project. Funded by the Canadian Space Agency, it supports the observation and study of Earth’s magnetic activity. The CARISMA website provides access to its data repository, where users can download data and explore summary plots and other analysis tools.
Its resources include realtime fluxgate magnetometer plots, quick-plot tools, Pc1 and Pc5 power spectra, induction coil magnetometer spectra and audio, plasma density profiles, Canadian auroral indices, and a Pi2 database. The site also offers information about data formats and data-use requirements, along with educational material explaining Earth’s magnetic field and how CARISMA instruments measure it.
CARISMA data also powers AuroraWatch, an auroral activity prediction service for Edmonton, Alberta, and locations at similar magnetic latitudes. The service provides alerts by email and Twitter. CARISMA is associated with the University of Alberta, which hosts its website and offers contact information for site-related questions.
