Cáritas is a charitable and social action organisation that supports people experiencing poverty, exclusion, homelessness and other forms of vulnerability, including older people and children. Its work is rooted in welcoming and accompanying people, while helping them strengthen their ability to shape their own development and defend their human rights. Cáritas operates through a broad network of diocesan and parish organisations, supported by volunteers and paid staff.

Its services span four main areas. Social action programmes address basic needs, personal wellbeing and participation in community life. Solidarity economy initiatives put people at the centre of economic activity and promote access to decent work, while supporting an economy that respects human rights and the planet. Through international cooperation, Cáritas works with local churches and partner organisations to reach people facing poverty around the world. Its emergency programmes support communities before, during and after disasters, conflicts and humanitarian crises, helping them respond and recover.
