The Carlisle Indian School Project is dedicated to telling the full story of the boarding school era and its impact on generations of Native peoples. With a focus on both the tragedy and triumph, they aim to honor the children and give voice to the legacy of trauma, resilience, and survival. Having operated for 39 years, the Carlisle Indian School was the first American Indian boarding school and served as a model for over 26 other Indian Boarding Schools across the country.
With over 140 tribes represented and thousands of students attending, the school's history is both extensive and significant. To further their mission, the Carlisle Indian School Project is actively working towards creating a heritage center and living memorial near the original school site. Through tax-deductible donations, they aim to remember and honor the children of Carlisle and their families.
By collaborating with the US Army War College, who now occupies the former school site, they are able to draw upon invaluable resources to accurately portray the school's history. For more information and to support their cause, visit the Carlisle Indian School Project's website
