Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust

Melbourne General Cemetery, established in 1852, holds a significant place in Australia's heritage as the first Victorian cemetery designed as a public park. Nestled in Parkville, it features a blend of historic charm and serene landscapes, including the notable heritage-listed Gate House and the Prime Ministers' Garden. This expansive cemetery spans 43 hectares and houses around 300,000 burials, including many prominent figures such as governors and prime ministers.

Offering a diverse range of services, the Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust provides various burial options, cremation services with enduring tribute urns, and elegant mausoleum spaces designed for contemplation and comfort. Additional facilities include function rooms, chapels, memorial areas, and a café. Their recent Project Cultivate focuses on enhancing the natural environment, having already added over 250,000 plants to enrich the visitors' experience. The cemetery also offers planning assistance through their Customer Service Centre, ensuring families receive the support they need while honoring their loved ones.
