Carmelitas

The Discalced Carmelites in Portugal are a Teresian Carmelite Catholic order whose life and work centre on prayer, contemplative spirituality, community and mission. Their website brings together information about the Order’s government, province and constitutions, as well as its friars, sisters and secular members. It highlights communities and local activities in places including Braga, Coimbra, Fátima, Faro, Viana do Castelo and Aveiro.

The Order shares Carmelite teaching and spiritual resources through reflections on figures such as Saint Teresa of the Child Jesus and Saint John of the Cross, articles, news, multimedia and editions. Its content explores prayer, Scripture, Christian life and the Carmelite tradition, inviting visitors to deepen their spiritual journey. The Discalced Carmelites also organise retreats, formation courses, prayer-group gatherings, conferences, pilgrimages and liturgical celebrations, with events held at locations such as Domus Carmeli in Fátima. Through these activities and publications, the Order supports religious communities and individuals seeking spiritual formation, prayer and engagement with Carmelite spirituality.
