Carolina Public Press is an independent nonprofit news organization dedicated to providing nonpartisan, in-depth, and investigative journalism for the state of North Carolina. Founded in 2011, Carolina Public Press initially focused on the issues faced by Western North Carolina, but expanded its coverage to encompass the entire state in February 2018. With a mission to deliver factual and context-rich reporting, their award-winning journalists dismantle barriers and shed light on critical issues impacting the state's residents.

Carolina Public Press offers comprehensive coverage on crime and justice, the economy, education, the environment, health, politics, and government. Their reporting is supported by the financial contributions from hundreds of individuals and foundations across the region and nation. By providing nonpartisan, fact-based news, the organization aims to bridge the gap in trust and provide a source of reliable information for North Carolinians.

Through investigative reporting, Carolina Public Press acts as a vital public service, offering the community checks and balances on the actions of elected officials, government agencies, and corporations. They also prioritize civic and civil public discourse through public forums and engagement on pressing issues, working towards a better-informed democracy for all
