Richard N. Funk is an author of political thrillers whose work explores national security, border policy, and the potential consequences of international and domestic conflict. A native of Austin, Texas, Funk graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and earned a PhD in 1977. After a 25-year teaching career, he worked in the research division of the State Comptroller’s Office and served as a senior state policy analyst in the Texas Governor’s Office under Governors George W. Bush and Rick Perry. He is now retired and lives in Lago Vista, Texas.

Funk’s featured novel, Cartel Wars: The Consequence of America’s Open Border Policy, is a near-future thriller involving a former Chinese special forces commander, diplomatic negotiations in Latin America, Mexican naval bases, and cartel border infrastructure. The story is set partly in Texas and examines the perceived threats posed by organized crime and foreign influence. Funk has also written The Winds of the Gods and The Winds of Destruction.
