About Casa Pueblo
Casa Pueblo is a community self-management project in Puerto Rico that is committed to appreciating and protecting natural, cultural, and human resources. It was founded in 1980 when the Puerto Rican government wanted to initiate mining in 17 silver, gold, and copper deposits. This would have caused an ecological and social catastrophe in 36,000 acres of land in the municipalities of Adjuntas, Utuado, Lares, and Jayuya.
The founding members who started this fight and still remain are Ms. Tinti Deyá Díaz and Ing. Alexis Massol González, along with an exemplary body of volunteers.
Casa Pueblo offers various projects and services, such as the Tinti project, solar energy initiatives, the Madre Isla coffee project, the Bosque Escuela education project, the Cine Solar film project, and the Radio Casa Pueblo community radio station. They aim to empower the community and promote sustainable practices
