Çatal Research is the Advanced Molecular Systems and Biotechnology Laboratory at Biruni University’s Advanced Technology Application and Research Center (BAMER), led by Professor Dr. Tunç Çatal. The laboratory brings together molecular cell biology, biotechnology, microbiology, computational biology, and bioengineering to investigate biological systems and develop practical solutions for energy, environmental, and biomedical applications.

Its research focuses on three connected areas: microbial electrochemical cells, bioactive compound screening, and molecular and computational biology. The team studies microbial fuel and electrolysis cells, which use electroactive microorganisms to convert organic waste into electricity or hydrogen. It also identifies and evaluates compounds for therapeutic, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anticancer potential, alongside experimental and computational studies of cellular processes.

Çatal Research shares its work through scientific publications and educational resources, including Professor Çatal’s handbook on microbial electrochemical cell technology, which combines core principles with laboratory protocols and experimental guidance. The broader EUCHEMBIOJ platform, founded by Professor Çatal, supports academic publishing, scientific networking, biotechnology education, digital scholarly resources, and international conference activities.
