Cataratta Congenita

Associazione Cataratta Congenita (ACC) is an Italian nonprofit organization supporting children affected by congenital cataracts and their families. It provides accessible information about the condition, including its diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation, and highlights the importance of early detection, such as through the red reflex eye examination. ACC helps families navigate the journey after diagnosis, when care may involve surgery, corrective glasses or contact lenses, and ongoing visual rehabilitation under medical guidance.

Beyond educational resources, the association offers opportunities for families to connect and share experiences. Its annual gatherings bring children and relatives together to build relationships and discuss the path ahead. ACC also publishes news, organizes events and conferences, and keeps its community informed through social media. Its fundraising activities include donations and Italy’s 5×1000 tax designation, which support the association’s work. Through the RUN 4 GENE initiative, ACC also supports genetic research into possible causes of congenital cataracts at Milan’s Niguarda Hospital.
