The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is a public-interest research and advocacy organisation that promotes environmentally sound and equitable development, with a focus on practical responses to pressing environmental and development challenges. Its work spans clean air and sustainable mobility, climate change, biodiversity, food systems, renewable energy, waste and the circular economy, sustainable habitats and industrialisation, and water and sanitation. CSE conducts research and laboratory studies, publishes reports and educational resources, and supports policy dialogue, public engagement and community-focused initiatives in India and internationally.

Through its programmes, it provides technical assistance to governments and other partners, develops tools and case studies, and convenes workshops, webinars and public events. CSE also runs the Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute (AAETI), an education, research and capacity-building hub offering short- and long-term courses, online learning and onsite training for practitioners and students. Its media and knowledge platforms include Down To Earth, which provides environmental reporting, alongside the India Environment Portal and CSE’s publications, videos, podcasts and bulletins
