Catherine Smith Photography

Catherine Smith Photography is a Hamilton, New Zealand photography business specialising in maternity, newborn and family portraits. Photographer Cat Smith creates a relaxed, supportive experience, gently guiding clients through natural-feeling poses while leaving room for movement and personality. Sessions are designed for families who may feel camera-shy or worry about how young children will respond.

Maternity photography celebrates this fleeting chapter, with the option to include a partner or children. Newborn sessions take place at home, where families can feel comfortable, and combine softly posed portraits with lifestyle images of a baby’s early days. Family sessions offer a blend of timeless portraits and candid moments, captured at home or outdoors during golden hour. Cat helps clients with wardrobe choices and brings the equipment needed for newborn sessions.

The business also lists commercial and branding photography, as well as mentoring and education for photographers. Its approach centres on real family connections rather than perfect homes, outfits or behaviour, helping clients feel at ease while creating photographs to cherish.
