About Catholic Religious Australia
Australian Religious is a peak body that represents leaders in the Australian Church who are dedicated to effecting positive change within the Church and society. They cover a diverse range of areas, including justice, professional standards, education, stewardship, and governance. Bringing together male and female religious in one organization, Australian Religious demonstrates a deep commitment to working together in furthering Christ's mission in Australia while honoring the individual charisms of each Congregation.
As an ecclesial community within the universal Church, Australian Religious fosters collaboration and inclusivity, encouraging religious to celebrate their diverse charisms in the service of the Gospel. Following Pope Francis' vision of a synodal Church, they prioritize listening, learning, and taking shared responsibility for proclaiming the Gospel. They play a leadership role in the Church, giving Religious Institutes a collective voice in the Church and the community.
Responding to social and environmental needs, they strive to bring fullness of life to all. Australian Religious also serves as the peak body for Religious Leaders in the Australian Church and society, providing support and tailored services to religious individuals and addressing emerging issues of governance, legislation, policies, and professional standards. Their strategic priorities include leadership support, collective advocacy in key areas, and preserving the unique identity and prophetic voice of religious life within the Church and beyond.
