Walking History – A Tour of Cavan Town is a heritage project that introduces visitors to the history, culture and changing streetscape of Cavan, Ireland. The site describes Cavan as Ireland’s first Gaelic medieval town and invites visitors to explore its past through a self-guided walking tour supported by QR codes and online information. Its collection covers historic buildings, landmarks and locations, including Cavan Gaol, the Court House, the Town Hall, Railway House, the Egg Market, the Abbey Lands and the Catholic Cathedral of St Patrick and St Felim.
Visitors can also discover stories connected with Percy French, old maps, sketches and photographs showing Cavan through the years. The project aims to help people understand the events and places that have shaped the town, while encouraging them to experience its local culture and welcome. Walking History also invites the public to share memories, stories and old photographs for possible inclusion on the site.
It plans to expand its historical content, offering visitors more opportunities to learn about Cavan Town
