About CCFAnow
The Choctaw-Chickasaw Freedmen Association (CCFA) is an advocacy and educational organization led by descendants of African and African Native American Freedmen of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations. It supports people seeking to understand their Oklahoma-based Freedmen ancestry and promotes recognition of Freedmen contributions and history. The association addresses the legacy of enslavement, segregation on the Dawes Rolls, broken treaty promises, and continuing concerns about citizenship, discrimination, and equitable treatment.
CCFA provides genealogy resources, including guidance on records from before the Dawes Rolls, slavery-era research, oral histories, searchable databases, and historical documents. Its educational offerings include webinars, videos, publications, workshops, question-and-answer sessions, and regular online meetings. The organization also invites descendants to submit family stories for its growing archive and helps people identify Freedmen ancestors on the final rolls. Through suggested readings, news updates, historical collections, and community engagement, CCFA works to preserve Freedmen heritage, share research, and connect descendants with resources and support.
