The Charlotte County Historical Society is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization based in Charlotte County, Florida. Founded in 1969, it works to foster awareness of the county’s heritage, encourage preservation, and build appreciation for its historical communities. Its mission is to advocate for and support local history through education, initiatives, and projects.
The Society supports local history programs and services, and connects the public with historical resources, photographs, events, and partner organizations. It collaborates with groups including local historical societies, museums, and history organizations, helping residents and visitors explore the area’s past.
To fund its work, the Society hosts three annual fundraisers and festivals: Frontier Days, the Hibiscus Festival, and the Charlotte County Low Country Boil. The Hibiscus Festival, established in 2004, celebrates the history and character of hibiscus hybridizer Harry R. (Pete) Goulding, with food, music, craft vendors, and plant vendors. Community members can support the Society by volunteering, attending events, or contributing to its fundraising efforts.
