About CCI
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is a regulatory authority established by the Central Government on October 14, 2003, to promote fair competition in the Indian market. It aims to protect consumer interests and ensure a level playing field for producers through the enforcement of the Competition Act, 2002. This act addresses anti-competitive agreements, abuse of dominant positions, and regulates mergers and acquisitions that may negatively impact market competition.
The CCI fosters wider consumer choice and lower prices by incentivizing innovation among producers. It actively engages in competition advocacy, public awareness campaigns, and provides training on competition-related matters. The Commission is composed of a Chairperson and several members appointed by the government, working to eliminate practices that adversely affect competition.
With a high disposal rate in both antitrust and combination matters, the CCI is instrumental in maintaining competitive markets, thus contributing significantly to India’s economic landscape. Overall, the CCI serves as a cornerstone for ensuring a fair and competitive market environment in the country.
