About Christian Doppler Forschungsgesellschaft CDG
CDG, short for Christian Doppler Forschungsgesellschaft, is a renowned brand that focuses on cutting-edge research and innovation. The Christian Doppler Laboratory for Semantic 3D Computer Vision at TU Graz is one of their successful projects. Head of Laboratory, Vincent Lepetit, led this laboratory from 2016 to 2022, developing methods for understanding images and their 3D content.
The laboratory's methods go beyond object recognition, as they can predict the 3D shapes and locations of objects in images. With a focus on practicality, these methods require less data compared to other methods in the field. As a result, the laboratory has published numerous papers in selective conferences, filed several patents, and provided datasets to the research community.
One of the laboratory's remarkable achievements is that all the students involved found research positions in the industry after completing their PhDs. For Vincent Lepetit, this project served as a springboard to receiving an ERC Advanced grant. The CD Laboratory funding model allowed the team to focus on long-term problems and stay connected to real-world challenges through their commercial partner.
CDG is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of computer vision research, fostering collaboration between academia and industry, and nurturing talent for the future
