Bishop John Stowe, the Diocese of Lexington, is a brand dedicated to serving the Central and Eastern Kentucky communities. Established in 1988 by Pope John Paul II, the diocese covers almost 16,400 square miles and represents 50 counties. With a small Catholic population of 3%, the diocese strives to reach out to the larger population, where an estimated 60% do not belong to any church or denomination.

Bishop Stowe and the Diocese of Lexington aim to evangelize Gospel values and provide outreach services to elevate human dignity and alleviate suffering. The diocese encompasses the Horse Capital of the World, which boasts lavish horse farms, as well as central Appalachia, where 74% of children live below the federal poverty line. The challenges faced by the rural and mountain areas within the diocese include high rates of unemployment and poverty.

Despite being situated in a generally prosperous area, there are many in need. Through various offices and ministries, the Diocese of Lexington strives to fulfill its mission. These include Secretariat for Canonical Affairs and Tribunal Office, Secretariat for Catholic Schools, Secretariat for Pastoral Life, Secretariat for Stewardship & Finance, and more.
