CDS 09

The Comité Départemental de Spéléologie de l’Ariège (CDS 09) is the departmental representative of the French Federation of Speleology in Ariège, France. It brings together around one hundred cavers from across the region and supports the discovery and practice of caving, as well as canyoning. Its work also includes protecting underground environments, training members, developing their skills and serving as a reference for underground rescue. Volunteer cavers form the local teams of the French Speleological Rescue service, which supports safety and rescue in the activity.

The committee coordinates its work through specialist commissions covering instruction, scientific and environmental matters, rescue, canyoning and communications. People interested in taking part can find local clubs, the Departmental School of Speleology and Canyoning, professional guides, and opportunities linked to national discovery events. The CDS 09 website also provides practical resources for planning outings, including route descriptions, information about regulated access, guidance and activity charters.
