About CEAZA
CEAZA, the Center for Advanced Studies in Arid Zones, is a Regional Center for Scientific and Technological Research located in the Coquimbo Region, Chile. Founded in 2003 through a joint project between the University of La Serena, the Catholic University of the North, and the Institute of Agricultural Research, CEAZA focuses on conducting advanced research in various fields. CEAZA comprises several research groups, including Biotec, Geosciences, and Mar.
The Biotec group focuses on improving agricultural and aquaculture species cultivated in the region. The Geosciences group studies hydro/climatic processes, with a particular interest in hydrology and glaciology. The Mar group conducts research on oceanography and the ecology of coastal marine systems in the Coquimbo region.
In addition to research, CEAZA is also involved in knowledge transfer and offers various services. This includes the development of scientific tourism initiatives and the promotion of citizen science. CEAZA is committed to expanding scientific knowledge and fostering sustainable development in arid zones.
