The Centre Européen d’Études Japonaises d’Alsace (CEEJA) is a Colmar-based organization established in 2001 to strengthen exchanges between Japan and the Grand Est region across culture, research, education, tourism, industry and innovation. It develops cultural projects and events that introduce Japanese culture to European audiences, supports Japanese studies, and offers tailored training. Its initiatives also include the European Manga and Anime Museum (MEMA), scheduled to open in 2027, and plans for a major European library devoted to Japan.
Through tourism projects developed with Alsace Destination Tourisme and All Nippon Airways, CEEJA promotes connections between the region and Japan. It also supports academic cooperation through the Europe-Japan Academic Club, which organizes scholarly events and publications with partner universities. In 2020, CEEJA created the JapanTech Grand Est Cluster, bringing together Japanese companies and local Japan-focused organizations.
The cluster includes a multisector incubator in Colmar that welcomes innovative Japanese small and medium-sized businesses and startups. Together, these activities connect communities, institutions and businesses while advancing long-standing Alsace-Japan relations
