About Celsius Initiative
The Celsius Initiative is a demand-driven collaboration hub that aims to support cities in their transition to carbon-neutral heating and cooling systems. As a project focusing on cities' needs, Celsius offers hands-on support through its forerunner groups, connecting members to exchange ideas and influence climate and environmental policies. By fostering innovation, Celsius accelerates sustainable development in Europe and globally.
Celsius provides continuous knowledge sharing through a monthly newsletter, webinars, participatory workshops, and the Celsius Toolbox. This toolbox gathers and shares technical, economic, social, and policy expertise to assist cities in implementing smart and sustainable heating and cooling solutions.
The CELSIUS Project, funded under the 7th Framework Programme, brought together a network of 72 cities and 68 City Supporters between 2014 and 2017. The project partners consisted of 20 organizations from public, private, and research institutions. Building on the momentum of the project, the City of Gothenburg, Johanneberg Science Park, RISE, IMCG, and Euroheat & Power joined forces to create the Celsius Initiative.
The Celsius Initiative aims to accelerate the energy transition, support the implementation of the Paris Agreement, and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals for a sustainable future.
