Central Current is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, and independent news organization operating in Central New York. Founded in 2020, we are currently in the startup phase and actively seeking feedback from the community to shape the future of local news in the region. With our dedicated team, led by editor-in-chief Julie McMahon, we aim to provide a fresh and local perspective on news and events that matter to the community.

As part of our commitment to independent journalism, we are connecting with similar organizations nationwide to learn best practices and address underserved communities and inequities in news coverage. We also invite local freelance journalists to pitch their ideas and contribute to our platform. To ensure the sustainability of Central Current, we have started fundraising with a goal of $1 million.
