A Fundação Banco Central de Previdência Privada - Centrus é uma Entidade Fechada de Previdência Complementar - EFPC, sem fins lucrativos, constituída de acordo com a Lei nº 6.435, de 15 de julho de 1977, sob a forma de fundação, regida atualmente pelas Leis Complementares nºs 108 e 109, de 29 de maio de 2001. Patrocinada pelo Banco Central do Brasil e por ela própria, seu funcionamento foi autorizado pela Portaria PT GM nº 2075, de 31 de março de 1980, do Ministério da Previdência Social - MPS. Tem como objetivo precípuo o de instituir e executar planos de benefícios de caráter previdenciário, acessíveis aos então empregados do Banco Central, até 31 de dezembro de 1990, aos atuais servidores do Banco Central regidos pela Lei nº 8.112, de 11 de dezembro de 1990, e aos do seu próprio quadro de empregados.
