About Conflict and Environment Observatory
The Conflict and Environment Observatory (CEOBS) is dedicated to examining and elevating awareness of the environmental impacts of armed conflicts and military operations. Founded to advocate for increased protection of both human populations and ecosystems, CEOBS actively engages in research, policy advocacy, and public education. Their work spans a variety of critical topics, including the intersection of law, military practices, and environmental sustainability.
CEOBS publishes insightful reports and conducts projects focused on issues like military emissions, humanitarian disarmament, and civilian science. They also develop innovative tools to integrate environmental considerations into mine action programs in countries like Angola, Yemen, and Ukraine. Through collaborative efforts, CEOBS aims to track and mitigate environmental degradation linked to conflict, such as pollution from gold mining in Sudan and the effects of military activities on marine life in the Black Sea.
