CERCICOA is a Portuguese cooperative for education, rehabilitation and capacity-building for inclusion. Founded in 1979 by parents and friends of children with disabilities, it was created to help children develop and participate in society physically, socially and culturally. Its work initially focused on school-age children who lacked suitable educational and social support.
Today, CERCICOA’s services and initiatives include professional training, the FOEC Occupational Forum for Expression and Communication, and FOEC + Jovem. Through these activities, the cooperative supports education, rehabilitation and inclusion, while providing opportunities for expression and communication. CERCICOA also shares information about its projects, services and organisational work through its website.
Its commitment to inclusion is reflected in its history and in its collaboration on community initiatives, including a mental health congress organised with the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health of Beja through the FOEC project. CERCICOA serves people with disabilities and their families, working toward greater participation and more supportive responses within society
