About Cervical Cancer-Free Nigeria
The Cervical Cancer-Free Nigeria campaign is a grassroots initiative dedicated to eliminating cervical cancer in Nigeria. Their mission is to educate children, parents, and the wider public about how to prevent this devastating disease with the use of the human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine. Cervical cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death among Nigerian women, claiming the lives of 11,000 women every year, which equates to one death every hour. The campaign aims to change this by spreading awareness about the availability and importance of the HPV vaccine.
To achieve their goal, the campaign has developed innovative educational tools, such as the "Doctor Obi" comic book, which teaches children and families about cervical cancer and the HPV vaccine. In addition, they have created a captivating animatic video that brings the comic book to life, featuring Nigerian voice actors. Despite the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, the campaign has adapted by leveraging digital media products and engaging a diverse group of Campaign Ambassadors.
Together with their partner organizations, the Cervical Cancer-Free Nigeria campaign is determined to make cervical cancer history and ensure that no woman in Nigeria loses her life to this preventable disease.
