The Centro Europeo di Studi Normanni (CESN) is a cultural and research institution founded on 7 October 1991 by Italian, French and English scholars. Based in Ariano Irpino, Italy, it promotes research, education and public understanding of Norman civilization in medieval Europe. Its work includes historical and scientific outreach, conferences, seminars, educational activities and specialist training courses.
CESN also publishes books and conference proceedings on Norman and medieval history, and maintains a library and bibliography focused on Norman-Swabian studies. Its publications address subjects such as medieval southern Italy, historical documents and the legacy of Roger II. The centre shares its research through events, presentations, study meetings and educational initiatives, and supports access to related resources through its website and bookshop.
Since 1997, CESN has held legal recognition as an organization and has been included among cultural institutions of national importance. It was also entered in Italy’s National Research Registry in 2002
