Charlotte Kleyn is a culinary historian, journalist, author, editor, and educator who explores the stories behind food. Her work examines how eating connects with identity, culture, trade, agriculture, colonialism, health, and inequality, using food as an accessible way to understand people, places, and periods in history. After studying history and French, she completed a master’s degree in Food History in Tours and Brussels.
From 2020 to 2024, she served as curator of the Food History Collection at Allard Pierson, part of the University of Amsterdam. Kleyn writes for publications including Het Parool, Trouw, and Geschiedenis Magazine, and has published several books. She also works as an editor, contributes to television and radio programmes, and offers teaching, lectures, and guided tours on a range of subjects related to food and history.
Her services include writing, research, editorial work, speaking, and educational programmes. Charlotte Kleyn welcomes collaborations and commissions, bringing historical insight and a lasting enthusiasm for good food to each project
