About Chaslerie
The Chaslerie is a historic manor estate in Domfront-en-Poiraie, in the Orne region of Normandy, near the edge of the Armorican Massif. Built from the 16th to the 18th century, the site brings together a group of buildings around a walled courtyard, including the manor house with towers, stables and a dovecote. A chapel, farm, cellar, press house and bakehouse stand beyond the courtyard, amid meadows, hedgerows and small woods.
A distinctive firing wall, pierced with numerous loopholes and dating from the regency of Marie de’ Medici, borders the estate to the east. Recognised as a listed historic monument and of regional, possibly national, architectural and historical interest, the Chaslerie is undergoing restoration. Its varied building styles and roof forms are unified by local materials such as ferruginous sandstone, granite, slate and tile.
