NPS-CHDS

The Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS), part of the Naval Postgraduate School, strengthens national security through graduate-level education, practical research, and collaboration among professionals across government, industry, and other sectors. Its programs serve decision-makers and practitioners working in homeland defense and security, helping them develop the knowledge, strategies, and professional networks needed to address evolving threats.

CHDS offers a Master of Arts in Security Studies, alongside programs for senior executives, emerging leaders, and specialists in radiological emergency preparedness. Executive education includes customized seminars, workshops, symposia, and short courses delivered nationwide, as well as programs tailored for Hawaiʻi and U.S. Pacific officials. A self-study program also provides more than 40 free, self-paced, non-credit courses.

The center supports learning and research through the Homeland Security and Defense Library, the peer-reviewed Homeland Security Affairs journal, and a repository of student theses and other educational materials. CHDS also fosters professional connections through CHDS Live, a collaboration hub for participants and alumni, and its University and Agency Partnership Program.
